Cold plasma air purifier - the innovative air purification system from medical technology

In medicine, the disinfecting effect of cold plasma has been known for a long time. Tubes have been further developed that go back to an invention by Werner von Siemens. Technically speaking, these ionisation tubes use the same principle for plasma therapy as ozone therapy. Since the characteristic odour is usually unpleasant in ozone therapy, research has discovered that it is not ozone (O3) but singlet oxygen 1O2 that is medically effective, since electrons and ions are released when the air molecules (or oxygen molecules) are split. This plasma (= fourth aggregate state) serves in all its components to eliminate germs and thus promotes the healing process! In medicine, there are various methods of producing a highly concentrated plasma shower by adding oxygen or nitrogen, which is used in dentistry. The use of ambient air to generate cold plasma is also a common procedure.
In the report "Rational therapeutic use of cold physical plasma" from the portal of scientific medicine AWMF online, the mode of action and differences for medical use purposes are presented and explained in the current edition. It is also explicitly pointed out that the risk of side effects on adjacent tissue is extremely low. It is also pointed out that the cold plasma produces small amounts of ozone in any case, which, measured in the room, are far below the limit values. For sensitive people, O3 can be smelled from approx. 0.02 ppm. The limit value is 0.055 ppm, which must not be exceeded over a longer period of time. A concentration of 0.2 ppm can sometimes be measured directly at the ion tube, but this application has not been exceeded in a 39.1 m3 unventilated room (at 2.5m room height, 15.6 m2 area remains) with 0.03 ppm at a distance of 40 cm from the ion tube. Furthermore, no abnormalities of persons with medical electrical devices (pacemakers / defibrillators) have been reported in the context of plasma treatment. In summary, the use of cold plasma for germ reduction is recommended.

This is precisely the point at which many developers of cold plasma air purifiers start, which certainly differ somewhat from cold plasma in terms of physical production. But whichever way the cold plasma is produced, the germicidal effect remains the same for all devices, even if the quantity of positive and negative ions produced per hour differs.

In summary, we see the following advantages of cold plasma in air purifiers:

  • Germicidal effect against many germs and bacteria is medically proven.
  • The germicidal effect of BPi air purifiers has also been certified.
  • No side effects are known if the rooms are large enough
  • The BPi air purifiers are equipped with ion tubes in different sizes so that the optimum size can be selected.
  • The plasma does not lead to the formation of residues of bacteria, fungi or viruses
  • The plasma components are highly reactive and therefore react bactericidally, fungicidally and virucidally, regardless of the defence mechanisms of bacteria.
  • The cell membrane of bacteria, the spore formation of fungi and the docking mechanism of viruses are destroyed.
  • The body's own cells remain protected by the cholesterol that is secreted
  • No allergies occur, as the human body is only exposed to different structural forms of oxygen, which also occur in nature.
  • Other pleasant side effects are the elimination of air pollutants through the reactive components of the plasma.

Cleaning principle of cold plasma briefly explained

When the air flows past the ionisation tube, millions of negatively and positively charged ions are generated (= cold plasma) - just like in nature. The ions disperse in the air of the rooms and proactively destroy air pollutants that are harmful to the health of the occupants. In the elimination of air pollutants (e.g. viruses and bacteria, volatile organic compounds (VOC), odours and fine dust), plasma air purification is characterised by safety, low maintenance, simple installation and high efficiency.

Mode of action for viruses and bacteria (or play video above)

The plasma ion tube produces
many positive and negative ions
The ions attack the pathogen
and perforate the cell walls
DNA and proteins within the
cell wall are destroyed
The pathogen is quickly inactivated
until it is killed and decomposed

Our advice

Advantages of the BPi air purifiers

  • No ventilation power necessary for cleaning - the built-in fan only accelerates the distribution of ions in the room!
  • No filters necessary, which have to be disposed of and expensively bought again after contamination!
  • Can be used everywhere due to the different sizes and optional battery operation!
  • Very low power consumption and low noise development, as no air has to pass through a tight filter!
  • Very broad cleaning spectrum - from pollen and mould spores to (corona) viruses and odours!
  •

Only here you can get air purifiers with a housing made of solid wood, which also work silently!

We offer devices in different sizes, from the size of a cigarette pack, to that of a beverage can, to a large stand fan. Some of them come with a rechargeable battery, most of them with a small fan and different ion tubes. Only with us you will find units with a housing made of oiled solid wood.

The stationary units come with very different ion tubes, for room sizes from 7 to over 150 sqm.
They can be installed on the wall or in suspended ceilings. A coarse filter cleans dust particles from the air in front of the tube.

The BPi built-in modules can be installed in ventilation systems or at the outlet of air-conditioning units. In this way, they perform their valuable service invisibly.
Units with tubes up to 1300 sqm are available, so we can meet all requirements.

Info on the principle of bipolar ions in the air

The following terms are used analogously by other manufacturers, they all describe the principle of bipolar ionisation. The techniques are very similar, but sometimes differ in detail: Cold plasma, plasma air, active oxygen, inon air, heath air, IonBase air, IQ air, Pure air, ionised air, bioclimatic air, bioclimatic air, medi-air, proclean air, provital air, bionik air, ionizacion air, sterilair, air ioniser, liveair, smart air, ozonos air, medical air, Thunder air, Pur air, Bionizer air.
The technology of bipolar ionisation has been known for a long time and was started in 1857 with the development of the ozone tube by Werne von Siemens. This was used to disinfect drinking water in order to ensure water quality in cities and to prevent illnesses caused by contaminated drinking water. To reduce the generation of ozone as much as possible, the high voltage in the tube is kept below 3 kV - the power that the tubes need to generate bipolar ions ranges from 1 to 7 W. In our tubes, ozone is generated in the bipolar ion. Our tubes emit ozone in the non-measurable range - these quantities are completely harmless to humans and animals. We also use high-quality stainless steel mesh in the construction of the tubes in order to be able to guarantee the longest possible operating time of the tubes (for details see article in Wikipedia).
Every manufacturer uses this same technique; the main differences lie in the control system for generating the high voltage. The positive and negative ions produced by this method therefore do not differ between the manufacturers - the quantity of ions is determined somewhat by the control system and essentially by the size of the tube. To ensure that our units fit the needs as exactly as possible, tubes are manufactured in sizes of 30mm, 70mm, 80mm, 180mm, 350mm and 520mm in length and combined as required. On request, a control system is available that measures the number of ions in the air and controls the tubes so that, depending on the degree of air pollution, sufficient ions are always produced.
The smaller units do not have such an expensive measuring unit - the presence of large quantities of ions is perceptible to the human sense of smell (it smells like clean air, after a thunderstorm). Then, on most units, you can manually set the control to a lower level so that fewer ions are produced. Or you can switch the unit off for a few hours and then switch it on again, or use a timer for this.
